The inspiration for GNE came when I returned from a trip that had me set back for almost 2 months. Following the trip I, Soren, announced my retirement and decided to hang up my boots, not literally mind you, in the efed world. But there was always something in the pit of my stomach that made me want to come back. I'm not quite sure what it was, but it was a feeling that ended up getting the best of me. It is for that reason that today, Generation Next Entertainment has opened its doors and has begun revolutionizing the next generation of sports entertainment.
The idea for the GNE dates back to the early 2002, or so, but it was always put on the back burner. Call it running out of fuel but the inspiration to open up something of its sorts did not arise until earlier in 2007 when a conversation with a friend brought back the idea of opening up GNE. I began production slowly, taking my time to do everything just right, but in the midst of the year that was 2007, there were many set backs that occurred.
With so much time already spent, needless to say I decided to scratch that idea, when once again, two friends inspired me, with their support, into getting back into it. Successfully I stepped back into the world of efedding, and began putting together ideas to which I could base the soul of the federation around.
I wanted a community, a place where people could come just to enjoy and write, but how to do it was the problem. That's when the long term idea came to mind, and it is around this one single ideal that GNE is what it is today:
"Whenever someone feels that it's time to leave the GNE, they leave better off than when the first came."
It is inevitable that every federation at some point or another will close. No efed will stay open forever, it just cannot be done. Granted, federations can last anywhere from 1 month to 10 years, but at some point or another, that ride will come to an end. And throughout the midst of that ride, that rollercoaster of ups and downs, twists and turns, there will be individuals that come, and individuals that go.
It is our job, to make it so that those individuals that go, leave the GNE feeling like it was their home, but more importantly, leaving as better roleplayers, better efedders, and better individuals altogether.
I didn't want the biggest federation on the web, nor did I want to be the best. I just wanted a federation that would set itself apart from all others. Unfortunately in the efedding world there is hardly anything that has not been done, but I wanted to merely take it to another level. That is why I felt that efedders should not be limited to simply roleplaying, but having an active role in the shows as well.
That's why I came up with the Superstar's Portal. The portal that grants you access to do whatever it is you want, how you want, when you want, and make it known in the shows. This gives you complete control of your character, from sending in match strategies, segments, angle ideas, interferences, to simply adding flare to your entrance. Anything, big or small, is within your grasp. The idea is to keep the fedders as active as they can possibly be, but taking into regard that real life plays a role.
This allows you, the fedders, to literally take control of where you want to steer your character.
But that simply, was not enough. There had to be more, recognition for those that go beyond the expectations around them, that simply set themselves apart from everyone else. To offer that recognition with the prestigious titles that GNE has to offer is one thing, but why not more? Titles change hands week in and week out. We needed something permanent, something that would shimmer for as long as GNE was open.
Hall of Fame? No...too overdone. We have the Halls of the Destined.
There are those who are just incredible individuals in efedding, but then there are also those, who are simply destined to set themselves apart in every aspect of who they are and what they do. Those few destined souls are the individuals that can achieve the highest level of recognition the GNE has to offer, being inducted into the Halls of the Destined.
Part of me felt that this was enough, but another part did not. I wanted more, well hell, why not? With a completely interactive webpage linked to the forums, we did just that. But that was for the superstars, what about wanting to attract newcomers into our game? Well the Resource Center on the main page could give any individual insight as to how to become a roleplayer, what it takes to become an efedder, and how to make it happen. It's wonderful getting a veteran roleplayer, but igniting the passion in a new individual to get into efedding is something that puts itself in its very own category.
Now all this, is what you see on the outside, on paper. Within the GNE doors, I wanted even more. I wanted a home, a community. A place where coming to the boards was not something you felt you HAD to do, but something you craved to do. That excitement that got me into this game of wanting to know who did what in a certain angle, not even caring for my match but simply wanting to see the show, or wanting to throw a new idea into a roleplay, that's what I want to revive, and I hope, with the help of the GNE staff and its illustrious roster, to do that.
GNE too, with the help of all of these ideas, its vastly growing roster, and the inspiration provided from every individual that makes GNE the fed that it is, will etch its legacy in stoned...just as if it were Destined to.
