These are some basic roleplaying tips that should help you on your way in not only the GNE but in efedding in general. I find myself to be a pretty decent roleplayer and having learned a lot over the years; I'll try and pass that knowledge down in hopes that it can be put to some good use.
KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) - What this basically says is that you don't have to do 4 roleplays that are 450 lines in length. Usually when you TRY to push yourself to get behemoth rp's because they'll look good, you're pretty much repeating the same thing over and over again. Say what you have to, elaborate on it some, and then end the rp and move on. There's no point in forcing length, it causes results to be late when we have to read them, on top of which making your roleplays very boring.
The name of the game is roleplaying, play the damn role - When you roleplay, try to get into the role of your character, usually if the character is based off of you, then that shouldn't be too hard, if that's not the case, listen to music, workout, do something to work yourself into your roleplayer's personality. This way the rp's sound natural. When you do that, actually PLAY your character's role, don't sit there and talk about how you're going to kick your opponent's ass over and over again, and just make the roleplay trash talking, fiddle with it, play around. I'm not saying don't talk about your opponent, I'm saying make it a story and go beyond just that. Tips on doing this are:
|
Create A Scene - Use your environment, make it believable. Storylines - Make a story out of your roleplay, a day in the life of so and so, describe what will happen. Details - Details help a lot, the minor things. Don't go overboard with them but describe your character's outfit, the weather, outfit, type of car, sounds, etc. World - Go beyond the in ring roleplays, remember there's a world out there, it's your playground, USE IT! |
Limit Your Roleplays - The 4 rp per match rule should keep this taken care of. I want ya'll to rp and rp frequently, but there's no need to do 3 200 line rp's in a span of 3 hours back to back. Play with it, build up to it.
Don't write 4 rp's RIGHT before deadline - This is an act I've always hated, people throwing 4 massive rp's right before deadline. Don't do that, that's just trifling. On top of which, I have to read them, it'll cause late results, rp throughout the week when you have time, save it in word and pick back up to it.
DO NOT PLAGIARIZE- This is a no tolerate rule in 99% of feds including my own. Do not use anyone else's work, there's no excuse why you should do this. If you can't come up with your own ideas, then watch movies, listen to music, go outside and just start writing. Sometimes out of the oddest spots you can get the greatest ideas, but NEVER, and I MEAN NEVER, use anyone else's work. Most feds have it to where you get stripped of your title if you have any, and are put on suspension, in my fed, you're automatically fired. People take the time to write their roleplays, respect them by writing your own.
More than 1 wrestler - Something that's bothered me for as long as I can remember is people having two or more wrestlers that are absolutely identical with nothing diverse between them. What's the point? If you have two wrestlers, give those two individual personalities, two different goals, and two ways of talking, try to make it so that people can't figure out that you're handling both people. There's no point in having more than one character that's exactly the same.
Paragraphs - Ok, I'll be real with you, if I click on an rp the first thing I do is scroll across it to see how long it is. I never mind reading length, but I always scoff and sigh heavily when I see roleplays that have these MASSIVE blotches of text in the middle with 1 line of description between them. Believe me when I say it helps when you break those huge paragraphs up into some little ones. This helps with making it believable; no one just sits around and talks for 15 minutes without doing anything. They walk around; they look around, they use their hands for gestures. Do it!
Consistency - Being consistent with roleplays helps A LOT! Try to stay alongside with angles, storylines, cards, things of that nature. Rp consistently so that you don't look like you're out of whack and give off the impression that you're just rambling on and on. Remember, don't take it show by show, grasp a gimmick and run with it.
Boundaries - Everyone loves a good rp war, but that doesn't mean you have to set yourself up open to a whole crap load of bashing, try to give hints off here and there. This way when you do an rp battle you don't get smashed, have fun with it.
Gimmick - Gimmicks, nicknames, stories are phenomenal ways to spice up a roleplay. Use historical context to put emphasis on your roleplay, or maybe something from a movie, getting ideas from other places is a great way to go but don't plagiarize. Have fun with it; think up a nice nickname or a catch phrase. When you have something to base your roleplay on, it gives it a good foundation, whether it starts off with a story of Alexander the Great or leads in with a dream of having sex with a diva. Have fun with it.
