If you read the "What is Efedding" section of the site, then you'll see we brushed up on what a rolelpay is. Here, we're going to into a little more depth of what a roleplay really is. Keep in mind that this is not a page that will help you improve on how you roleplay, but will simply better explain what a roleplay is. For tips, please visit the Roleplaying Basics and In Depth Roleplaying tips of the site.

What is Roleplaying?
Ah, a question that is probably plaguing you if you've never been involved with an efed before. Think of roleplaying as acting out an improv, something you'd see in a drama or theatrical presentation. You take something, in this case an individual or wrestler, and you play his role, you become him, you take in his persona and adopt everything that he is into yourself. In turn, you begin playing the role of this character.

Forms of Roleplaying
But it's not so touch base easy. There are different forms of roleplaying. Chances are that the roleplaying your familiar with (if you are that is) is different. Many of us think of roleplaying as playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, or Warcraft, or something along those lines. Others know roleplaying as something you do to heighten a sexual experience. Both of these are similar to the type of roleplaying you would do in an efed because again, in turn, you are playing the role of someone else. In Warcraft you play the role of warrior, orc, or troll. In Dungeons and Dragons you play the role of whatever it is you are, a wizard, a fighter, etc etc. In reference to sex, you play the role of a sexual character, whether it's a nurse, a doctor, a submissive, another person, so on and so forth. Well in efedding, you play the role of a wrestler.

Which Wrestler?
Now you ask, which wrestler? Well that's entirely up to you and the federation you're affiliated with. Some federations allow real life wrestlers to be used, people like The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Batista, Hulk Hogan, Sting, Randy Orton, Edge...so on and so forth. In GNE, we do not allow that. We believe in creativity. So...you would be playing the role of someone you created. You create your character as how you want him to be. He can be a man from the darkside with vampiric tendencies, or he can be a crowd lowing eat your vitamins bodybuilder. He can be a billionaire rapper or a hobo that wants to wrestle for food. Some of the most unique roles I have encounter include a drug addicted lesbian, a midget with taurette's, a teenager trying to impress a girl, and a billionaire businessman that uses other wrestlers to do his bidding. Create your wrestler, create him how you want, and play his role.

So what's a promo?
When you efed, and you roleplay, instead of calling it a roleplay, you call it a promo. The reason this is, is that when you're in the role, you will not refer to yourself as playing a role, you'll refer to yourself as cutting a promo, or doing a special appearance. Remember, you're the star of your roleplay, and to be a good roleplayer you have to make it so that the audience (opponents, fed staff, fans, colleagues, and efed readers) believe that it's you that's writing the roleplay. Be professional about it. But initially, simply put, a promo is the same thing as a roleplay. As your character, you simply don't want to refer to something you did as a roleplay. It's bad form.

How do I do it?
There are many ways to roleplay, and for more information you can visit the Roleplaying Basics. But the nitty gritty of it, is that you don't want to limit yourself. By this I mean don't do what you see on TV. On TV, if you watch wrestling, the superstars are always in the ring or backstage. Don't limit yourself to that, you can do that if you want, but you won't go very far. Remember, you live the life of your character, so do what you would throughout the day. An easy tip to remember, is pretend the camera doesn't exist. Interact with people, show yourself waking up, walking your day, at your house, in your car, second job, so on and so forth.
